Midland Computers, IT specialists based in Halesfield, Telford, was responding to a recent BBC survey which revealed that almost three-quarters of companies and public sector organisations may be not be fully prepared for an IT crisis, such as fire, flood or theft.
The report showed that most organisations would not be able to fully restore their computer systems or data after an IT failure and that 54% admitted they had lost data or suffered systems downtime in the past 12 months.
Midland Computers sales and development manager Nick Dodd commented: “We fully support the survey findings as the problem has become particularly acute as backup has become more complex.
“In fact one of our Shropshire customers recently had their entire IT infrastructure, including all business programmes, financial information and user data, stolen from their premises, luckily they were already using our back-up systems.
“For many firms this would leave them with no way to run their business effectively and therefore we have introduced a highly effective product designed to actually test back-up infrastructure.â€
Nick said that the ‘Recovery Simulation Solution’ included a range of measures designed to ‘future proof’ systems, including a visit to assess backup routines and recovery of systems to a test server at Midland Computers using current backup methods.
“We invite customers in to view their recovered server and discuss possible improvements. Our team advises on estimated recovery time and compiles a report detailing individual backup methodology and issues a test certificate. The system gives peace of mind that backups are working correctly and can be quickly and successfully recovered from.
“This is a fixed fee service which is proving to be invaluable to local firms,“ Nick added.
