Andy Boroughs was instrumental in introducing low carbon heating technology in the UK and has been spreading the environmental message to young people.
He said: “When adults hear about how to save energy and why we should be looking to renewables to fulfil our future energy needs, we are asking them sometimes to change a mindset of a lifetime.
“Young people are very different, they already know about the importance of recycling and turning off the lights. But sustainability is much more than that, and is a vital lesson for the next generation which will have to consume less and conserve more to protect the environment for their own children.â€
Mr Boroughs was at Stadhampton Primary School in Oxfordshire last month, at the official opening of a new ÖkoFEN wood pellet boiler supplied his company Organic Energy, based in Welshpool.

“Stadhampton Primary is the first school in Oxfordshire to have a biomass boiler installed. The youngster were aware of how carbon emissions from fossil fuels are harming our environment. It was a pleasure to talk with them about their new wood pellet boiler and explain that it is almost carbon neutral in that the trees which the pellets come from absorb carbon dioxide from the air,†he added.
Mr Boroughs also recently gave a lecture at Centre for Alternative Technology’s Graduate School in Machynlleth.
Student Leanda Morrison, studying for an MSc in Renewable Energy and the Built Environment, said Mr Borough’s presentation on the benefits of wood pellet boilers and biomass was “inspiringâ€.
She said: “It was an honour to hear from someone who had very moralistic principals on how business and renewable energy should be conducted. The whole room was impressed.â€
Mr Boroughs’ company is the sole UK distributor of the ÖkoFEN wood pellet boiler range, regarded as the most advanced and efficient of their kind in the world. CAT’s heating and hot water is provided by one of the ÖkoFEN boilers which was donated by the company in 2006.
