Ratko Ugrinic, 49, was born in the former Yugoslavia, but moved to Telford with his family at the age of five.
His career in the insurance industry dates back to 1985, when he joined Telford Insurance Brokers Limited – a Wellington-based company which he went on to manage.
He added to his experience in the commercial insurance sector during several years with Hogg Insurance Brokers of Shrewsbury, which he joined in 1989.
More recently, Ratko has been offering insurance brokerage services to a wide range of clients, from UK local authorities to customers in the Falkland Islands.
He said he was excited about joining Newport and Shrewsbury-based Henshalls, as a senior commercial account holder.
“Insurance is a profession, not a job,” he said. “It is extremely rewarding, because most days are different, and throw up new challenges.
“My commercial insurance career so far has largely revolved around working for national brokers, and this has allowed me to build up an immense amount of experience and knowledge. I’m looking forward to passing this onto the Shropshire business community, and meeting prestigious new clients.”
Ratko, who speaks fluent Serbian and Croatian, is a familiar face in local sporting circles, where he is an active member of Wellington Badminton Club. He is also a keen squash player.
Henshalls director Mark Freeman said: “We’re delighted to welcome Ratko to the team. He brings with him an immense amount of insurance industry experience.
“Not only that, though, he is also very familiar with the Shropshire business scene, having worked in the Telford and Shrewsbury areas for many years. He will be a great asset to our company.”
