Mike Haycox, from Newport, was an account manager with Midland Computers of Telford but left to take up a teaching position in a primary school, where he became experienced in the specific IT requirements of schools.

Mike commented: “I was fascinated to learn about their use of technology and the importance of computer systems in education as a whole”.

“Many schools under-utilise IT, with problematic hardware ignored, or not used correctly. Businesses would not accept this as it would cost them money, and of course it’s the children who suffer in the long term”.

“Using my teaching experience, my new brief is to work with schools to ensure that they have the correct equipment in place to suit their specific needs. With the new curriculum in place this September, a school’s IT budget needs to be utilised wisely and smartly with relevant solutions being clearly functional and simple for both teachers and pupils to use. It’s my role to assist and facilitate these solutions”.

Midland Computers sales and development manager Nick Dodd, added: “We are extremely excited to be leading the way in providing support for the educational sector and Mike has joined us with a mass of experience, both previously from the IT world and latterly from the teaching profession.

“Having formerly been directly involved, he clearly understands the demands of everyday life in a school, where teaching the next generation is the priority and absolutely essential for the long-term future of our children’s education.”
