Network Rail has offered Virgin Trains time slots to run two trains a day on the route to and from London.
The Monday to Friday service offered would depart from Shrewsbury at 16.03 each afternoon arriving at London Euston for 18.32. A return service will leave London Euston at 11.33 each morning, arriving in Shrewsbury at 13.50.
A Sunday service would leave Shrewsbury at 16.03 and arrive into Euston at 18.33, the return service will leave Euston at 18.50, arriving in Shrewsbury at 21.39.
Commenting on the times provisionally offered, Shrewsbury MP Daniel Kawczynski said:
“These off peak times will act as a real boost for our tourism industry in Shropshire as it will allow an increase in the numbers of people visiting Shropshire, as well as allowing a direct link for my constituents to get to London outside the rush hour.
“Seeing this service start in May 2014 will be of real benefit to Shrewsbury, but it will be just the start of a much improved direct services to London.”
A spokesman from Virgin said they have made no secret of the fact they want to serve more places, with Shrewsbury being one of them.
“We look forward to hopefully starting this important new service in May.”
