Both carriageways, eastbound and westbound, between junctions six and seven were closed for a time due to the flooding. The Highways agency have confirmed that they have stopped the flooding, treated the road surface and re-opened the carriageway in both directions.
Drivers are being urged to take extra care due to surface spray.
The flooding of the motorway is believed to be linked to a water storage facility at an open cast mine site which failed, leading to flooding around Dawley Road in Lawley and Wellington.
Telford & Wrekin Council’s engineers are on site and working with the mine’s owners to stop any further flooding.
