Witness appeal following burglary in Whittington

At around 3.30pm, a property was broken into in Station Road, Whittington, and jewellery was stolen. A family member disturbed some men, who ran from the property. Witnesses have told police they saw three males running along Station Road into Yew Tree Avenue where they were seen getting into a van and driving off.

Earlier that day, North Wales Police received a report of a burglary in Chirk, during which car keys were stolen and a Black BMW X5 4×4 was taken. This was later recovered at Fox Lane, West Felton, which is a few miles from Whittington.

Detective Constable Malcolm Normandin, at Monkmoor Police Station in Shrewsbury, said: “We are in the early stages of our investigation and cannot be definite about whether these two incidents are linked.

“However, West Felton and Whittington are generally peaceful areas so we are looking at any possible connections between the theft of the BMW and the break in.

If anyone saw any suspicious activity in either village at any time in recent weeks, then I urge them to contact West Mercia Police straight way.”

DC Normandin can be contacted via the non-emergency police number 101 or information can be passed on anonymously through the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. Please quote the reference number 0082N 27/03/13.
