Detective Inspector Sarah Wagstaff, one of the investigation team, said: “This is a major enquiry and we remain determined in our efforts to trace the driver involved.”
Father-of-three Dale McNamee died after being struck by a vehicle as he walked along the A458 between Shrewsbury and Bridgnorth at around 4.20am on Saturday, November 26.
Police believe he may have been partly lying in the road at the time. They think he was struck by a white box van carrying two people wearing fluorescent jackets which was travelling towards Bridgnorth.
DI Wagstaff said: “The occupants of the van will be aware of what happened and I repeat our appeals for them to make contact with the police by calling the non emergency 101 number.
“I am also urging anyone who knows the identity of the driver, or who has strong suspicions as to who it might be, to get in touch. If they don’t wish to speak to the police, then please contact the anonymous Crimestoppers number, 0800 555 111.
“I would urge anyone who can assist the police to do the decent thing. Family and friends of Mr McNamee have been left distraught and we need to complete the investigation in a proper manner.”
She added: “We will continue our inquiries and we are grateful to those people who have already given us information.”
Mr McNamee had walked about a mile from the Chestnuts area of Cross Houses towards Bridgnorth when the collision happened at Venus Bank, Cound. The road was unlit, he was wearing dark clothing and may have been lying in the road, either fully in the carriageway or partly on the verge.
He was pronounced dead at the scene
