The largest installation was a thousand panels (194kWp) for poultry farmer Mark Gethin from Cardeston Ford, near Shrewsbury.

The system now ranks among the largest privately owned systems in the UK and largest in Shropshire. Brothers Richard and Philip Maddocks installed on their neighbouring farms new Newport to protect their dairy and salad businesses against electricity price increases, whilst Andrew Watson of Howle Manor aims to run his poultry heating systems using the power generated by his 535 solar panels.
The average farm will make a return of around 13% on their investment including savings of up to 50% on their electricity bills.
“Farmers in Shropshire have really embraced solar technology and the benefits that it brings as a new source of on farm revenue and protection against electricity price rises, “said sales director, Stephen Davies. “We currently have 30 more farmers going through the process of planning, structural surveys and network approval including cheese makers, dairy, cattle and poultry farmers.â€
