It means the organisation which employs more than 500 people in the area, is now generating a proportion of its annual electricity, helping to reduce the building’s running costs and free up funds for tenant projects.

Gary Komora, who has overseen the installation at the Trust said: “The system at Colliers Way comprises 20 solar PV panels, the electricity savings from which will be monitored and shared with employees. There aren’t many buildings of our size utilising this technology in Shropshire at the moment but its worth considering given the potential financial and environmental benefits.â€
The Trust will also benefit from the Feed-In Tariff. Introduced by the Government to help increase the level of renewable energy produced in the UK. An additional benefit of the Feed-In tariff is the fact that it will be paid for 25 years providing the Trust with a valuable income, which will be transferred into services for tenants.
This is the second ‘high rise’ project for the Trust in the last few months after it installed a green roof on its new Arleston Lane development and continues its drive to introduce green technologies such as heat pumps and solar panels.
The solar PV system was installed by Phoenix Renewable Technologies based in Newcastle-under-Lyme.
