Bridgnorth residents to help boost food bank at Christmas lights event

Love Bridgnorth, the group that helps promote the town, is urging the local community to help bolster the stocks at the Bridgnorth Food Bank in time for the festive season when they attend the Bridgnorth Christmas Lights Switch on.

“We will have a drop off point under the town hall on Bridgnorth’s Christmas lights switch-on evening on Friday 25 November and invite families and people attending the event are invited to bring an item for the foodbank” said Sally Themans of Love Bridgnorth.

“The Christmas lights evening, which is a fabulous free event organised by Bridgnorth Town Council, is always hugely popular and usually draws crowds, so I hope that people will feel inclined to help those in need at this time of year – especially as we head into a difficult time due to the current cost of living crisis.”

Liz Bird, of Bridgnorth Food Bank, said: “The spirit of giving at Christmas is always strong amongst the Bridgnorth community and outlying villages and this is a brilliant way for people to show their appreciation of the Town Council’s annual event and help the Bridgnorth Food Bank at the same time. We are very grateful to Love Bridgnorth for organising this collection.”

The food bank needs non-perishable, packaged items which are well within “sell by” or “best by” dates, such as tinned meals, tinned fish, tomatoes and vegetables, soup, baked beans, pasta, rice and cook-in sauces.

Instant mashed potato, tins of fruit / rice pudding are also well received as are staples such as tea bags, coffee, sugar, long life milk, squash and long life fruit juice as well as jam, honey, cereals, biscuits and snack bars.

The food bank also distributes toiletries, cleaning items and dog and cat food.
