Lidl proposes new store on Shrewsbury Town Football Club land

Discount supermarket chain Lidl is proposing to build a new food store on land currently owned by Shrewsbury Town Football Club.

The German company is planning on building the new store on land adjacent to the club on Oteley Road.

A public exhibition has been organised to ask the community for feedback on the proposals. It will take place on Friday 27 November 2015 between 3pm and 7pm at Greenhous Meadow.

The site is being sold to help secure the club’s long-term future.

Ed Whalley, Senior Acquisitions Consultant at Lidl, said the new store will create new jobs: “The new store will give shoppers more choice locally, providing a high-quality offer at low prices. Up to 40 new jobs could also be created.

“We are keen to know what the local community thinks of the plans and I would encourage people to attend our public exhibition and provide feedback.”

If planning permission is granted the new store would be 15,000 sq ft net and between 25 and 40 new jobs could be created.
