Bridgnorth area wind turbine applications rejected

Plans to build one 250 ft turbine near Bridgnorth, and two 150 ft turbines in Middleton Priors were rejected due to the potential detrimental effect they could have on the local landscape.

The decision has been welcomed by South Shropshire MP Philip Dunne. who said: “There has been a great deal of local feeling against erection of these large turbines in South Shropshire. Many local residents have contacted me to make clear how opposed the community are to this development.

“The Corvedale is one of the most beautiful areas of countryside in South Shropshire, whose landscape is enjoyed both by local residents and thousands of tourists each year.

“I am pleased that local councillors have listened to the community and respected the will of local people, ably articulated by local Councillor Robert Tindall and campaign groups. This decision shows that local people really can have a say over developments in their local area.”

“Many campaigners opposing the construction of these turbines addressed a meeting of Shropshire Council’s South Shropshire Planning Committee to voice their concerns. The applications for a larger turbine at the Downs, near Bridgnorth, was rejected unanimously, while the smaller applications were rejected by six votes to three.”

Members of the campaign group Stop Bridgnorth Wind Farm had vowed to take their fight to appeal if the application at The Hills, near The Down had been approved.
