Catering and hospitality students are serving a two or three-course menu at The Orange Tree every Tuesday and Friday lunchtime, from noon to 1.30pm.

The restaurant, on the Haybridge Road campus, has two industry-standard training kitchens, and can seat up to 50 people.

Students are producing a fresh menu every month, under the supervision of award-winning chef lecturer Stuart Leggett, who has a wealth of experience at top establishments including world-renowned Gleneagles golf hotel.

He said: “Opening up The Orange Tree to the public is vital to prepare the students for employment, and to help hone their skills. We have been taken aback by the positive response to our menus over the past couple of months.”

The January menu includes goujons of sole with lemon crushed peas as a starter, followed by pork schnitzel and fried hen’s egg with parmentier potatoes, accompanied with parsley butter.
Dessert options include glazed lemon tart with compote of berries and Chantilly cream.

Jane Dowdall, from Doseley, who visited with her husband Colin, said: “We will come every month to taste the new menus. The food is exceptional.”

Another diner, Stuart Littlewood, added: “I owned hotels for years. I was trained in a catering college and we love supporting the students. The atmosphere is fantastic and it’s a great place to bring friends. I will definitely be coming again.”
