The annual £1000 award given by the Ludlow Food Festival to young food and drink entrepreneurs to further their career.

Having already gained a qualification in catering and enhanced her love of baking working for local companies Simply Delicious Cakes and the Ludlow Food Centre, Kay is all set to start a Diploma in Baking and Patisserie in September.

With ambitions to open her own French style patisserie and to teach, Kay has chosen to study at Reaseheath College in Nantwich and the bursary will help pay her travel expenses for the year.

Kay says, “The specialist course is exactly what I want to do, but obviously the travel to Nantwich three days a week is going to be costly. Winning the bursary will make such a difference and I’m really grateful.”

Kay will continue to work at the Ludlow Food Centre part time during her course, which lasts a year.

Beth Health, Operations Director of Ludlow Food Festival said: “We were really impressed by Kay’s application. It’s clear she has a real love for baking and it’s refreshing to see that she has a really clear plan for her future. Everyone at the festival is looking forward to watching how Kay’s career develops in years to come.”

Applications for the 2015 Graeme Kidd Bursary will be open early next year.
