The Vintage Llama Travelling Tea Rooms will be the town’s first ‘pop up’ tea emporium and is arriving in time for Mother’s Day.
The business, which aims to give customers an indulgent, nostalgic experience, will be open for just one day on Saturday, March 9 at Wysteria Lane in Grope Lane.
Amy Tuitt, who started the enterprise three years ago, was originally from Shrewsbury and has recently moved back to Bicton from Wiltshire.
She said: “I came up with the idea as I love old fashioned tea parties and wanted to be able to host them all year round – not just in the summer.
“So I turn each venue into a summer garden with faux flowers, butterflies, bunting and sugar mice. I also love baking and have a passion for vintage china so this is an ideal business venture for me.”
Amy said that now she was settled in Shropshire, things had started to take off for Vintage Llama, with her diary already filling up with bookings for hen nights, weddings and birthday parties.
Explaining why she chose Wysteria Lane to make her first appearance in Shrewsbury she said: “The staff go out of their way to make makes a shopping experience so lovely – you can’t help walking away with a big smile and in a good mood.
“This is what I want for people at my travelling tea rooms; whether they buy just a cup of tea or a full afternoon tea I want them to leave feeling like they have had ‘tea at the Ritz!”
Wysteria Lane owner Michelle Jamie commented that she was delighted to be opening a pop up tea room.
“We are expecting it to be very popular, especially as it is an ideal way for mums and daughters to enjoy a relaxing afternoon. If the experiment is a success we will definitely repeat it,” she said.
