Match Preview: AFC Wimbledon V Shrewsbury Town

Shrewsbury Town returns to League One action in search of their first three points of the 2020/21 campaign.

Sam Ricketts’ side has lost just once, but three draws contributes to a rather subdued start to the season.

Town could add to their squad on deadline day – but at the time of writing there are no new acquisitions or outgoings.

Ricketts must decide between electing to start Harry Burgoyne once more or hand a debut to Arsenal loanee Dejan Iliev.

Fellow goalkeeper Matija Sarkic remains out with a hamstring injury, whist Dave Edwards is close to returning to light training.

Shaun Whalley (calf) may return to the squad, but Ryan Sears (ankle) and Rekeil Pyke (groin) are on the treatment table.

Daniel Udoh and Ro Shaun-Williams are available after missing recent games due to self-isolation. There are no other COVID-19 concerns.

Elsewhere, Matt Millar could make his first league start. The Australian featured in a brief cameo role during the EFL Trophy win over Bolton.

The game is taking place at the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium – formally known as Loftus Road and home of QPR. AFC Wimbledon’s Plough Lane stadium is undergoing development.

Shrewsbury’s last away win against the Dons arrived in November 2018 as Luke Waterfall’s brace helped to secure a 2-1 win. Town has lost just one of the 11 meetings between these sides – with AFC Wimbledon not recording a win in this fixture for over eight years.

Glyn Hodges could hand a debut to ex Mansfield and Lincoln striker Ollie Palmer after he recovered from a groin injury. But Paul Osew is likely to be unavailable due to a hip injury.

Captain Will Nightingale has returned to fall training after missing the 1-0 victory against Swindon due to a knee problem.

Jaakko Oksanen featured for Finland’s U21’s in midweek and he has no fitness concerns ahead of the weekend.

AFC Wimbledon occupies 10th place in League One.
