Shrewsbury Town goalkeeper Joe Murphy is a huge doubt for the opening league game against Portsmouth, after a scan revealed a fracture in his foot.
The former Republic of Ireland international sustained the injury during the Portugal training camp, and is set to see a specialist on Monday.
He could miss the opening league fixture against promotion chasing Portsmouth, leaving Max O’Leary as the only senior stopper.
Youngster Cameron Gregory will be the only reserve, with the future of Reice Charles-Cook still unknown.
Midfielders Ollie Norburn (knee) and Josh Laurent (thigh) are also on the treatment table, whilst Dave Edwards and Scott Golbourne continue their recoveries.
Speaking to shrewsburytown.com, manager Sam Ricketts said: “Injuries are always disappointing, and to have lost Ollie and Joe for the foreseeable future is a blow.
“It is important they get the best treatment but also that they stay close to the group whilst doing that.
“They both are disappointed that they won’t be in the first team for a while, but we will all be there to help them during their recovery.
“With the keepers, the initial plan was to get Cam Gregory out on loan, but we will have to assess the situation and decide on the best course of action.”
