Cound will be fielding three teams in the revamped Henshalls Shropshire County Cricket League this season with the 1st XI playing in Division One, the 2nd XI in Division Six, together with a side in the Sunday Division One.

The club will also be entering a side in the Shrewsbury & District Evening League.

Secretary Kenny Hamer said: “We’re looking forward as a club to the challenge of playing in the new-look Division One of the Henshalls Shropshire County Cricket League.

“The division features the 2nd XIs of Birmingham League clubs such as Shrewsbury, Shifnal and Bridgnorth, which means we will get to play at some of the top grounds in the county.

“It should be an exciting and competitive league. Further to this our 2nd and 3rd XIs will face some new teams too which will be really exciting and is great for the league.”

“We have already been hard at work at the ground during the winter months to prepare for the 2019 season, including the building of a new equipment shed which has been named in honour of our former groundsman and club stalwart Micky Tomkins.

“If anyone would like to join us, they are more than welcome to come along to nets, or can contact a member of the committee if they want a chat.”

It is shaping up to be a busy season for the club, with a number of events already in the calendar with Severn Hospice as this year’s chosen charity.

The clubs is also planning to run an All Stars Cricket programme on Sundays for youngsters aged 5-8 following on from a successful launch last year. The eight-week programme will run from Sunday 19th May to Sunday 7th July 10am at the Cound Cricket Ground.

The club is hosting the annual Chris Wall Charity match organised by Dave Farrall on Sunday, May 12, and will also welcome junior schools from around the area on Wednesday, June 5, for a regional Kwik Cricket competition.

Presidents’ Day is on Sunday June 16, which will feature an eight-a-side tournament, and the following Sunday the club is proud to play host to a Shropshire Boys’ Under 11s fixture when they take on Staffordshire.
