Match Preview: Shrewsbury Town V AFC Wimbledon

Shrewsbury Town are aiming to make it five matches without defeat when they host basement club AFC Wimbledon.

Shrewsbury’s victories against promotion hopefuls Doncaster Rovers and Peterborough United has eased the pressure on Sam Ricketts.

The results have seen Town climb out of the relegation places and rise to 17th – five points clear of the drop zone.

Unlike the previous two games, Shrewsbury are expected to beat AFC Wimbledon who are embroiled in a relegation battle of their own.

Midfielder Anthony Grant picked up a booking against Doncaster and subsequently accrued his 10th of the season. He will serve a two-match suspension.

However, Ollie Norburn is back in contention after missing the 2-0 victory with a ban of his own; whilst Dave Edwards has served his three-match suspension.

Romain Vincelot is side-lined with a knee problem; whilst Lenell John-Lewis is a long-term absentee.

Stefan Payne scored the game’s only goal in this fixture last season – whilst Town has lost just one of the previous nine meetings between the sides.

AFC Wimbledon may be bottom, but prior to their 2-1 home defeat against Charlton, they achieved back to back league wins against Walsall and Rochdale respectively.

The Dons also stunned Premier League side West Ham in the FA Cup before eventually losing to Millwall.

Deji Oshilaja (foot) and Dylan Connolly (ankle) are unavailable. Ossama Ashley will miss the rest of the campaign with cruciate ligament damage.
