On Tuesday night the Shrewsbury Air Rifle League held an individual knockout competition which saw 12 shooters compete for a coveted trophy.
Each shooter had to shoot at least one match consisting of 5 shots on a Bell Target with the winner progressing to the quarter finals, semi finals and final.
The win was decisively taken by Rich Morgan from the Breidden Inn team after a close match against Unison’s shooter Mike Lewis that saw Rich shoot all five of his pellets cleanly through the 9.5mm hole in the centre of the target.
This acts as a close out of the Summer league and a warm up to the Winter league which will see eight teams from around Shrewsbury shoot weekly in pubs and social clubs to take the trophy in what is one of the oldest pub sports in the West Midlands.
Bell Target shooting is an indoor sport using .177 air rifles shooting an all Steel Bell target at 6 or 7 yards. The aim of Bell Target is to shoot the centre plate. The centre plate has a 3/8 inch hole, if enough pellet goes down the hole the mechanism is triggered and the bell rings.
