With the motor sport hill climb season fast approaching, Hagley Car Club officials and volunteers are spending their time preparing the track and support facilities at Loton Park Hill Climb at Alberbury, near Shrewsbury.

Several new car and driver combinations will be making their debut when the club stages its practice days for members over the Easter weekend, with the first competitive events being held on 16th & 17th April.

Lending a hand at the weekend were a group of students from Harper Adams University at Newport, who have their own motorsport department as part of engineering studies, and president Tom Talbot said: “ As part of our course we run a VW Golf rally car in club events which gives us hands-on practical experience in the engineering, preparation and running of a competition car.

“We have never been to a hill climb track before so we were delighted to come along and help prepare the course here at Loton Park and hopefully we will enter our own car in an event sometime during the season and we will definitely be joining the happy band of marshals who ensure safety for both competitors and spectators alike.”

Loton Park course manager Gareth Ellis, added: “We are very grateful to these students who have come along and joined around 25 volunteer club members to carry out essential repairs and maintenance at what is undoubtedly Shropshire’s premier motor sport venue.

“New timing facilities have been installed, tyre walls repaired, buildings painted and the ‘rumble strips’ at Triangle bend have been refurbished, so we are really looking forward to what promises to be an exceptional season.”
