Highly-rated forward Joe Miller has agreed a two-and-a-half-year extension to his contract with Telford Tigers.

The 30-year-old joined Telford in January 2014, following a spell with EPL rivals Basingstoke Bison.

Miller was a key part of last season’s double-winning squad, scoring 59 points in just 43 games.

He will remain in Shropshire until the end of the 2017/18 campaign, and is looking forward to emulating last year’s success.

Miller said: “It was an easy decision to stay in Telford, once I had spoken to Tom and Wayne about their plans for the club, and where they are heading.

“I’ve settled in the area really well and I still know a few people from when I first played in Telford earlier in my career. It is a familiar place to live and I like it here.

“I think we just need to get back to basics this season. We know the other sides are all looking to beat us, so it is a case of just playing to our strengths. Then the wins will come.”

Miller’s new deal was announced after Wednesday’s Tigers fans’ forum, when supporters grilled club bosses on the future of the EPL champions.

Head coach Tom Watkins said Miller was an integral part of his squad’s future.

He said: “Joe is a very important member of this team. He has an impressive skill set, good size, good hands and can skates well for a big guy.

“He can score goals on a regular basis and has formed a solid partnership with both Peter Szabo and Jason Silverthorn.”
