Worcestershire’s stars to visit Shropshire for Twenty20 clash

Worcestershire, who could include former Shropshire man Jack Shantry in their side, will face the county in a special challenge match at Shrewsbury Cricket Club’s London Road ground on Wednesday, June 13 (5.30pm start). Admission is just £5.

“Twenty20 cricket has captured everyone’s imagination and people like to watch it,” said Shropshire captain Ed Foster.

“The fact we are able to welcome Worcestershire again shows how strong the links we have with them are.

“Everyone’s looking forward to it and I know there will be 25 players who will want to play for Shropshire in that game.

“To be able to bring the best cricket around to Shropshire is fantastic.

“Hopefully it doesn’t rain, that it’s a decent day, and we get a good crowd along to watch what should be an exciting game.”

The match will act as a warm up fixture for Worcestershire who begin their Twenty20 campaign against Warwickshire 48 hours later.

The New Road club are expected to bring their full first team, among them former England star Vikram Solanki, to Shrewsbury.

“It’s just £5 to get in which is very reasonable,” said Shropshire chairman Toby Shaw. “We are also delighted that WA Lewis have agreed to sponsor the game.”
