Emergency services, including the Midlands Air Ambulance, were called to the incident at around 8.45am.

The man was working on the vehicle when it slipped from a jack that was being used to raise it off the ground trapping him underneath.

A Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “The man was trapped with the full weight of the vehicle down on their chest. The casualty was conscious and breathing but was in pain and a full assessment of their injuries could not be made due to the lack of access to them.

“A full briefing was given to the crew and Paramedics to ensure that everyone knew the plan of action, prior to commencing a controlled lift of the vehicle whilst monitoring the casualties condition and vital signs.

“The crew quickly blocked and chocked the vehicle and then set up air bags to lift the vehicle off the casualty.

“Once the vehicle had been lifted to allow enough clearance, the crew carefully slid the male from under the vehicle whilst ensuring they maintained C-Spine management. Once clear of the vehicle the casualty was handed over to Paramedics, who had also been joined by a critical care doctor and paramedic from the Midlands Air Ambulance based at RAF Cosford.”

The casualty was assessed at the scene before being transported by land ambulance to the trauma centre at the Royal Stoke University Hospital for suspected minor injuries.

A Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson added: “From the time of arrival on scene to the time the casualty was released from under the vehicle was approximately ten minutes.

“A great example of all the emergency services working together for the best care of a casualty. We wish the gentleman involved a full and speedy recovery from their ordeal.”
