Three injured in two car collision on old A5 at Norton

Two elderly women and a man have been injured following a two car collision on the old A5 near Norton this afternoon.

An ambulance came across the collision at 3.45pm at the junction of the B4394 and B43801. Two further ambulances, a paramedic area support officer and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Cosford with a MERIT trauma doctor on board attended the scene.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: “The two cars had been involved in a serious collision and one passenger from one of the cars was trapped.

“The passenger, an elderly woman, sustained chest and pelvic injuries in the collision and ambulance staff worked with the fire service to extricate her from the wreckage. She was given pain relief and immobilised before being airlifted to Royal Stoke University Hospital.

“The driver, an elderly man, was assessed but escaped injury and didn’t require hospital treatment.

“The passenger in the second car, an elderly woman, sustained injuries to her hand, chest and back and was immobilised onto a spinal board before she was taken by land ambulance to Royal Shrewsbury Hospital. The driver, an elderly man, was treated for minor chest and abdominal injuries caused by the seatbelt and was taken to the same hospital for further care.”
