Six injured as car and bus collide near Harmer Hill

Six people have been treated by ambulance staff and taken to hospital following a crash between a car and bus this afternoon.

The collision happened on the A528 between the Bridgewater Arms at Harmer Hill and Preston Gubbals, just before 3.25pm.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “Crews arrived to find a car and bus that had collided on the A528. There were five patients from the car and two from the bus.

“The most seriously injured patient was a female in her 30s who was treated for a reduced level of consciousness, a cut to her head and a pelvic injury. She was immobilised with the use of a pelvic binder and airlifted to Royal Stoke University Hospital.

“Additionally, a 19-year-old man had to be cut free from the car with ambulance staff working alongside the fire service to free him through the roof. He was treated for neck and leg injuries and taken to Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.

“Also from the car, a woman in her 20s was treated for a fractured arm and injuries to her face. She was taken to Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.

“Two further patients from the front of the car were both men in their 20s. Ambulance staff treated one for rib and abdominal pain before taking him to Royal Shrewsbury Hospital whilst the other went to Princess Royal Hospital with a knee injury.

“From the bus, a woman in her 80s suffered injuries to her face and a leg injury. Following treatment from ambulance staff she was taken to Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.

“Finally, the bus driver, a man in his 30s, was assessed and discharged on scene.”

Five ambulances together with a paramedic support officer, a paramedic in a rapid response vehicle and a BASICS doctor attended the scene. The Welsh Air Ambulance was also in attendance.
