Stars head to Shrewsbury for charity football match

Celebrity football players including EastEnders star Jake Wood, X-Factor winner James Arthur and Calum Best will be lining up at Shrewsbury Town FC’s Greenhous Meadow today.

The celebrities are taking part in a charity match which kicks off at 3pm, to help the PDSA provide its veterinary services in the county.

The charity provides treatment for 1,300 pets in Shropshire at an annual cost of more than £175,000.

Event organiser, Adam Rickitt, said: “It’s great that well-known singers, actors and presenters have agreed to play and support a great cause. We can’t wait to see them battling it out to raise funds for poorly pets. PDSA provides some of the most vulnerable pets in society with the veterinary care they deserve and all proceeds from ticket sales will help fund that service in Shropshire.

“We hope football fans and animal lovers alike with come and support us this Bank Holiday Sunday, for what promises to be a great family day out.”

The two sides are managed by Lee Latchford Evans from Steps, assisted by Jacqueline Jossa, and Real Housewives of Cheshire star Dawn Ward.

A number of ex-Shrewsbury Town stars have also been added to the line-ups with Micky Brown, Dean Spink, Darren Currie and Lee Taylor confirmed.

Tickets cost £10 for adults and £2 for under 16s.

All proceeds from ticket sales will go to funding PDSA’s veterinary services in Shropshire. Car parking at the ground will be £5.
