Hundreds of BMX riders are set to get on the track to raise funds for the Georgia Williams Trust in the first Wrekin Ride for Georgia.

The British Cycling event has been organised by Wrekin Riders BMX Club in Dawley with the support of committee members of the trust.

The event will be held on September 6 from 10am to 4pm and is set to offer a chance for everyone to race from novice to expert level.

The day will also include a packed programme of fun activities for children and adults from bouncy castles to face painting and games.

Wrekin Riders wanted to support the Trust after club member 14-year-old Callum Edwards received a grant last year to support his BMX journey to national and international competitions.

Jo Edwards, club secretary and Callum’s mum said the event was about bringing the community together and giving something back to the trust and to other youngsters to have a chance of receiving a grant as her own son did.

“We were overwhelmed when Callum received the grant from the Georgia Williams Trust and we felt so privileged so as a club we wanted to give something back.

“We have had fantastic support in the organisation of the event from Nikki and we hope it will be a great success in raising hundreds of pounds for the trust in memory of Georgia.”

Nikki May, a volunteer for the Georgia Williams Trust said: “We have been overwhelmed by the support of the Wrekin Riders BMX Club and the idea of the Wrekin Ride for Georgia is brilliant.

“I think all of those who knew Georgia know exactly who would have been on a BMX and racing around the track first.

“Everything the Trust does is about providing fun for others and celebrating the type of person Georgia was and I think the Wrekin Ride for Georgia fits in perfectly.

“The event will be open for people of all ages so parents and children will be able to have a go.

“The relay race can be entered on the day and will involve teams and is set to be lots of fun.”

Anybody who can offer any raffle prizes should email wrekinriders@outlook.com

Registration on the day will be from 9am to 11am and entry costs just £5.

Practice starts from 9am with sessions for novice, under 12, 13 and overs, pro-section and then racing starts at 12noon. Finals will take place at 4pm.

A relay race will also take place which can be entered on the day and costs £1.50 per person.

Prize money will be given to the winning team and all participants will receive a medal.
