BBC national DAB radio gets south Shropshire upgrade

People living in Clun, Bishop’s Castle and Craven Arms are now able to tune into the BBC’s digital set of national radio stations for the first time.

The news follows the BBC launching a further 20 national DAB transmitters bringing the total number of transmitters to 299 and covering more than 95 percent of the UK population.

The new transmitters are part of the current phase of their DAB radio network expansion plan, bringing a further two million people into the coverage area and increasing coverage from 93 percent to 97 percent by the end of 2015.

The roll out is not only adding new areas into the coverage of the network, but also improving reception for existing listeners in certain areas.

In total, the new transmitters bring 138,000 households into the BBC’s national coverage area and improves digital radio reception for a further two million households.

BBC national digital radio stations now available in Clun, Bishop’s Castle and Craven Arms are BBC Radio 1, BBC Radio 2, BBC Radio 3, BBC Radio 4, BBC Radio 5live, BBC Radio 6music, BBC Radio 4extra, BBC Radio Asian Network, BBC Radio 5live sports extra and BBC Radio 1extra.
