Thousands of people enjoyed a packed day of entertainment in The Quarry Park whilst the main town centre parade at 2pm saw large crowds line the parade route around the town centre.
Carnival Chairman, Graham Meredith said: “We had a fantastic day this year, not only did the sun shine but we had a very high standard of floats and walking groups enter the parade.
“I would like say a massive thank you to everyone involved for making the 2014 Shrewsbury Carnival a runaway success.”
Mayor of Shrewsbury, Cllr Beverley Baker said: “It was great to see so many people turning out to enjoy the event.”
Shrewsbury & Atcham MP Daniel Kawczynski added: “The organisers have my heartfelt thanks for an incredible job well done. I thoroughly enjoyed judging the float entries, the day demonstrated a great community spirit in Shrewsbury.”
The Keith Ivison Memorial Race which took place ahead of the parade also proved popular with runners and spectators. Organisers hope the race will become a regular feature.
Local community groups and charities will soon be able to apply for a slice of the donations collected during the parade. Information on how to apply will be available at www.shrewsburycarnival.co.uk soon.
Next year’s event takes place on Saturday 13 June.
