The incident occurred sometime between 5.45pm and 6pm on Saturday near Randlay pools off Randlay Avenue.
The victim – a 21-year-old woman – was making her way home on foot while listening to music through headphones, when she felt a blow to the back of her head.
The blow caused her to fall to the floor but then, when she looked up, she saw she was surrounded by four unknown women.
The women proceeded to kick and punch the victim a number of times while she was on the floor before then fleeing the scene at speed. Once the women had left the scene the victim immediately told a family member what had happened and then reported the incident to the police.
The assault left the victim with cuts and bruises to her body and face but thankfully she did not suffer any more serious injuries.
