The Duke will visit Ditherington Flax Mill in Shrewsbury and Fordhall Organic Farm, near Market Drayton. He will also officially open the Redwoods Centre in Shrewsbury and the Lingen Davies Centre at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital during the visit on Wednesday 12 March.

At the Lingen Davies Centre the Duke, who is the Queen’s cousin, will meet staff and patients at the unit – which treats people with cancer and haematological conditions, before officially unveiling a plaque to mark the occasion.

The centre is named in honour of the Lingen Davies Cancer Fund, which contributed nearly £4 million towards the £5 million cost of the state-of-the-art facility. Representatives from Lingen Davies will be presented to the Duke, along with other fundraisers from Shropshire Blood Trust Fund, RSH League of Friends, the Head and Neck Trust Fund and the Shropshire and Mid Wales Head and Neck Charity, who made it possible to build the centre.

“We are delighted to have a Royal visitor coming to the hospital to carry out the official opening and there has been much excitement ever since we were informed,” said Julia Clarke, who was the Project Director.

After a tour of the Lingen Davies Centre, the Duke will formally unveil the plaque marking the event in Shropshire Conference Centre on the RSH site. Staff, fundraisers, patients and visitors will be invited to join in the celebrations, which will also recognise the retirement of Dr Rajiv Agrawal, Senior Oncology Consultant, after more than 20 years working at the Trust.
