Yesterday’s operation, conducted from 8am until 2pm, targeted travelling criminals and motorists flouting road safety as well as routine checks.

Those taking part included West Mercia Police, the Vehicle and Operator Services Agency (VOSA), Public Protection Animal Welfare and HM Revenue & Customs.

Sergeant Adrian Woolley, who organised the operation, said a total of 111 vehicles were checked.

One driver was reported for excess alcohol, 12 vehicles had tyre, brake or light defects and two cars were seized under the Road Traffic Act.

Two drivers were found to be unlicenced having previously had their licences revoked, two others had no MOT certificate, one no road tax and two received warnings for number plate offences.

Three others were dealt with for red diesel offences.

Sergeant Woolley added: “Multi-agency checks are being conducted on a regular basis in the south Shropshire area.

“Officers were equipped with finger print scanners to prevent any identity doubts as well as the latest mobile data terminal technology to carryout the checks.

“I’d like to thank the public for their co-operation. The checks are made to improve road safety for everyone and to identify criminals who make regular use of the road network.”
