Daniel arranged yesterday’s meeting to re-emphasise the requirement for Network Rail to work closely with virgin trains and the office of rail regulation to progress this important transport link.

The scheme has the support of Transport Secretary Patrick McLoughlin who has taken a close interest in the matter and has encouraged the rail industry to work together to secure the introduction of this new and important service.

“This direct rail link has the support of all Shropshire and MP’s and that of the Transport Secretary. All of whom recognise the benefits that it will bring to Shrewsbury, Shropshire and further afield.

I keep asking why must Shrewsbury be the only county town that does not have a direct link into our capital city. I think we are getting closer, but I will continue to keep up the pressure both with my colleagues in Westminster and officials within the rail industry until we achieve our goal of a direct train from Shrewsbury to London.”

Network Rail Electrification Scheme
Mr Kawczynski has also welcomed the announcement from Network Rail that they plan for the West Coast Main Line to be electrified.

Work has already started in the North West and the aim is to rollout the scheme to include the West Coast Main Line.

Daniel Kawczynski MP said:

“Electrifying these railway routes will improve services for thousands of passengers and help support economic growth across many of our cities and towns. It will mean faster and quieter journeys with more seats on trains and improved reliability on some of the busiest routes.

This is good news for those that rely on the rail network and I intend to write to the Transport Secretary giving my support for the scheme and to request that additional government funding be awarded to Network Rail so that Shropshire can benefit. I will also be approaching my colleagues at Shropshire Chamber of Commerce to ask that they too endorse the proposals.
