The group are members of Age UK North Shropshire Supporters and have signed up to a slimming challenge organised by Shropshire Chamber Business Academy for 300 people to lose a tonne in weight, equivalent to the weight of a small hatchback car.

The total money raised by the event will be split between the two most popular charities taking part so the local group immediately sprung into action to sign up.

Organiser Steve Owen of the Business Academy, in Old Potts Way, Shrewsbury, said: “We aim to help people get fit for business in every sense of the word and hope that this new project will act as a catalyst for them to achieve their own individual fitness goals, as well as raising money for charity.

“Participants can aim to lose as little or as much weight as they wish and can nominate a charity of their choice, with the two most popular choices dividing the proceeds.

“The sponsored slim is open to absolutely anybody at all who wishes to register and should be a fun way of getting in shape, while also helping worthwhile causes.”
