As part of the visit AVM Lloyd performed the Official opening of the new Station Community Centre.

The inspection allowed AVM Lloyd to see how the unit operates and meet staff at all levels and from all 3 services, thus demonstrating our Joint credentials in the best interest of Defence and the professional contribution that the RAF delivers to Defence regarding the delivery of Air Power expertise, whilst also meeting families and members of the unit’s civilian workforce.

As part of the visit AVM Lloyd performed the Official opening of the new Station Community Centre surrounded by families and personnel from across the unit. AVM Lloyd said, “I am pleased to report that Royal Air Force Shawbury has performed very well indeed and I am proud to be the Air Officer Commanding. Royal Air Force Shawbury delivers all of the helicopter flying training to Defence, through the Defence Helicopter Flying School, including Royal Air Force, Navy and Army students, and all of the military Air Traffic Controller training, so the role of the Station is very important to the UK as whole; the RAF, as the nation’s experts in military Air Power, takes this responsibility very seriously indeed. I was also pleased to learn of the continued great support that Royal Air Force Shawbury receives from the people of Shropshire”.

In addition to completing his inspection of RAF Shawbury the AOC also completed his annual inspection of the Defence Helicopter Flying School accompanied by Commandant DHFS, Capt Paul Shawcross RN. During that visit he visited the Schools’ Squadrons and spent time chatting to personnel as well as presenting honours and awards to military personnel.

RAF Shawbury Station Commander, Group Captain Chris Luck said, ‘I am delighted with today’s inspection results; I think this is a flying success for Shropshire as well as for Royal Air Force Shawbury. I hope that the people of Shropshire feel that they can rightly share my pride in the men and women, service and civilian, of Royal Air Force Shawbury”
