Fundraisers say thank you to staff at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital

Mark Clayton sadly passed away earlier this year on the Intensive Therapy Unit (ITU) at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital despite, what the family called, the “fantastic efforts from the ITU Staff”.

This prompted Mark’s partner, Lisa Hawker, and two sisters, Deborah and Louise to raise money for the ward as a token of their appreciation. Altogether they have managed to raise £3461.02, which will help to provide new equipment for the unit. A cheque was presented to staff on the ward on Monday.

ITU manager Debbie Millington said: “On behalf of the staff on the ITU I would like to say a huge thank you for the family for all of their fundraising efforts in memory of Mark. This is a substantial amount of money and is very much appreciated by the team here. The money raised has paid for a Lidco Rapid Cardiac Output monitor machine.

“This machine provides patient data that can be used to guide treatment for patients who are critically ill.”

The SkyDive4ITU took place at Tilstock Airfield on 31 July 2011 with all skydivers funding their own jump so that all of the sponsor money could be donated.

Some of the money was also raised by the family during a fundraising night out in Shrewsbury where they dressed up as St Trininan’s school girls.
