Shrewsbury man arrested for keeping twenty seven birds of prey captive

The 67-year-old from Boscobel Drive in Shrewsbury was arrested under the provisions of the Wildlife Act after twenty seven birds of prey were seized at his home.

He was detained on suspicion of causing unnecessary suffering to wildlife after a search warrant was executed this morning.

The warrant was carried out at around 8am by RSPCA inspectors, officers from the National Wildlife Crime Unit and West Mercia Police. A vet was also in attendance.

The birds of prey, including owls and hawks were taken to a safe location following the search warrant being executed.

The man is currently in custody at Shrewsbury police station. The matter is being investigated by the RSPCA supported by the police.
