The location of this morning’s flight had been a complete secret with the only clue being there would be an appearance over one of the playoff team towns.

Perfect weather took the balloon from its’ launch point on the 18th hole at the superb Wrekin golf course across the widest part of the town and over Wellington, Donnington and eventually landed in the rugby fields at Church Aston.

The balloon’s location was reported every few miles live via Twitter and pictures from the balloon of Telford were posted on the balloon’s Facebook site. Indeed one of the first people to see the balloon and use Twitter to find out what was going on was the Shropshire Star’s Assistant Editor Carl Jones who tweeted ‘Anyone know why a giant Blue Square hot air balloon was flying over Telford this morning?

Operations Director Andrew Holly says ‘The people of Telford were very welcoming this morning. We startled many as the balloon is so vast but we were met with cheers of support from all of the football fans in the town and the odd offer of landing in gardens for breakfast. People were Tweeting us from the ground and some even used Twitter to follow us to our landing spot.’

Telford residents awoke this morning to the sound of the burners from the world’s largest Blue Square.
