A high number of entries have already been submitted for this year’s competition, with this year’s theme centred around artworks inspired by nature. This year’s submissions have included photographs of bees, paintings of Kingfishers and even panoramic views of landmarks across the region. The deadline for entries is now just five weeks away – so be quick if you would like to enter!

For the third year, this popular art competition will see 12 winning artworks published with an overall winner taking pride of place on the front cover of a 2022 calendar.

Kathryn Holmes, Marketing Executive for Wrekin said:

“We want people to think about nature or outside space that has given them comfort, showcase a newly discovered local haven or take inspiration from a garden or its wildlife.

“Spending time outdoors and observing nature is great for wellbeing and many have found sanctuary in nature and outdoor spaces over the last few months. That’s why the calendar’s theme is nature’s therapy.

“We have already received lots of great entries, however, we would love to make our judges work even harder by bringing many more calming artworks to their attention. Be quick though as the competition closes at midnight on the 31 August!”

The calendar is immensely popular and for the last two years has featured the winning artworks from many local artists. Around 15,000 copies will be printed and distributed to homes across Shropshire, Telford and Staffordshire.

The competition is open to everyone – whether you are a professional artist or exploring art for the very first time. There are no restrictions on the type of artwork either as everything from photography and painting to ceramics and crochet will be considered.

The artworks will be judged by a panel made up of representatives from The Wrekin Housing Group and its Tenants’ Panel.

Artists have until the end of August to get creative with their crayons or sew something superb and are asked to send a photograph in the first instance. Visit www.wrekin.com/calendar or email calendar@wrekin.com to find out more and enter.
