Shropshire Archives holds a wealth of fascinating local information and this month is holding a special behind the scenes event.
Take a look at the workings of the archives on Saturday 21 March 2020, at their volunteers showcase event.
Celebrate the work of volunteers at Shropshire Council’s Shropshire Archives and see the many fascinating and unique county documents.
The documents on display will reflect the work of the volunteers. They include photographs, correspondence from the Berwick family of Attingham Park, and records of Shrewsbury Borough.
Keeping everything running is no mean feat, volunteers are involved with cataloguing, answering questions on family history, photographing documents and working on their conservation. All these activities will be happening on the day, including short talks by the volunteers themselves on their work.
Lezley Picton, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for culture, leisure, waste and communications, said:
“This is a great chance to see behind the scenes at Shropshire Archives, including areas not usually open to the public.
“Volunteers play an important role at Shropshire Archives, so it’s wonderful to show them the appreciation they deserve for all their hard work.”
The event runs from 10am-1pm at Shropshire Archives, Castle Gates, Shrewsbury SY1 2AQ and costs £5.
