The trail is being organised by villagers for the second-year running as part of a series of ongoing community events in abid to raise £60,000 for a new village playground.

The Childs Ercall Playground Committee was set up in 2017 following an assessment of the play area by Shropshire Council.

Volunteer committee member Ruth Leftwich said: “Over the last 12 months or so, the council has continued to remove or close off parts of the play area due to safety concerns.

“There is very little left for children to play on so efforts have been stepped up to try and raise as much money as possible to allow for the park to be re-designed and new equipment installed.

“We need in the region of £60,000 and at last count the committee had raised around £14,000 mark so we still have some way to go.”

Events held by the committee so far have included two Christmas parties with the help of students at TCAT, several quiz nights, an evening of music, a Mother’s Day jewellery workshop, Celidh, curry nights, fashion show and regular monthly car washes and quiz nights.

Ruth added: “This is a really important project for children currently living in the village and for future generations.

“Last year the Easter trail proved extremely popular with families and we are hoping for a similar turn out this time.

“We have Easter egg prizes for all those successfully completing the short trail and letter hunt around the village and for those that don’t wish to do the trail, there will be tea and cake on offer in the hall, along with some other fun activities.

“The event has received so much support from local businesses in the way of raffle prizes and Easter egg donations –  it really is a huge team effort and we are grateful to everyone who has got involved.”

Businesses and organisations supporting this year’s trail include Childs Ercall Social Club, Be Bold Media, Fizz Festivals Ltd, Ford Hall Organic Farm, Shrewsbury-based Middas, Ford, Newport-based Jupiter, Blazehill Equestrian, Equine Outline, Body Shop consultant Claire Fitzhugh, Scentscerity, Lorna McCann Designs, Sambrook Manor Cottages, Samuels of Shropshire Dry Cleaners, Isla’s Images, Hawkstone Park and Follies and Claire Webster Forever Living.
