The competition launched this week aims to find 12 works of art depicting images inspired by where the Trust’s tenants live. The 12 winning entries will then be published in the 2020 calendar with the overall winner taking pride of place on the front cover. The winning works of art will also form an exhibition later in the year and a selection of art based prizes will be made to shortlisted artists.

Every year The Wrekin Housing Trust produces a calendar for tenants circulating around 15,000 copies. The calendar is immensely popular and over the years has featured works from local photographers and partner organisations including The National Trust, The Ironbridge Gorge Museum Trust and Severn Valley Railway and has included themes such as baby animals, healthy living and local landscapes.

This year the Trust is inviting keen local artists to help create a stunning calendar representing where they live.

Edward Thomas, Group Head of Marketing and Communications for the Trust said:

“This year we wanted to do something new for our calendar. The competition is themed around the places our tenants live and the winning entries will be both published and exhibited. Inspiration may be taken from the landscape, local community or home but we really want the images to be inspired by the areas of Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin and Staffordshire.

We’re welcoming artworks created from all media from painting to printmaking and there are no restrictions on age. We’re also looking to hear from local art groups, colleges and schools who may wish to get involved.”

The artworks will be judged by a panel made up of representatives from The Wrekin Housing Trust and its Tenants’ Panel and Telford College, who have been supporting the Trust in delivering the project.

Artists have until August to get creative with their crayons or make something superb by sewing and can visit wrekinht.org.uk/calendar2020 or email calendar2020@wrekinhousingtrust.org.uk to find out more and enter.
