Staff and children at a Telford school today appealed for people to vote them as the only county school to be in with the chance of winning a cash prize in a Good Energy competition.

Lawley Primary School has entered the competition as part of their campaign to raise money to install solar panels on their school roof.

The school is one of only 15 schools nationally which have been selected as a ‘Solar School’.

To participate in the competition, children were challenged to get creative through being inspired by renewable energy sources.

Deborah Dodds, spokeswoman from Lawley Primary School said: “Pupils observed evidence of renewable energy sources around their school.

“Year 5 children chose to make an array of wind socks complete with streamers. Each child chose to decorate their windsock in either a solar, wind or water theme; the three types of renewable energy.

“They tried to think of colours that could represent their chosen renewable energy theme. For example; warm colours for the sun, cooler tones for the wind and blues for tidal power.”

The finished art pieces are being placed around the school grounds.

Pupils hope the wind socks will draw everyone’s attention to renewable energy, reminding people that they are always present but are often taken for granted as part of our natural environment.

“Lawley Primary is the only school in Shropshire in the running in this competition and we’d love to win the cash prize. Please every vote counts so please support us,” she added.

To vote, please like the Lawley Primary School artwork via the GoodEnergy Facebook page www.facebook.com/good energy. Voting closes on March 27 2015.
