Burwarton Show short-listed in prestigious competition

Burwarton Show

One of the county’s best known and oldest agricultural shows has been shortlisted for a national competition – and organisers are appealing to Shropshire people to help it take the title.

Burwarton Show is one of six short-listed finalists of the Farmers Guardian’s prestigious Show Business competition, which is decided by the number of votes each finalist receives.

Glenys Allen, the Burwarton Show Manager, said that winning the award would mean a great deal to all the organisers and volunteers who ensure the show, which has its site between Bridgnorth and Ludlow, runs smoothly each year.

“We really need as many people as possible to vote for us” said Miss Allen. Voting closes on March 22, and other finalists include shows from Scotland, Cumbria and Northern Ireland.

“It is a simple and quick process – voters just need to go to the Show Business section of www.farmersguardian.com and follow the instructions.”

“To win it would be fantastic, and would be an enormous source of pride for the hundreds of people who work tirelessly to make Burwarton one of the most popular agricultural shows in the country.”

Burwarton Show, which takes place on a single weekday every August, regularly attracts more than 20,000 people to its rural location.

“We are obviously biased but we think the show would be a deserving winner of the competition,” said Miss Allen.

“The calibre of the entries in Burwarton Show’s many categories are, we believe, second to none. This applies across all livestock – predominantly cattle, sheep and horses – as well as trade stands, craft and food stalls”.

“We are placing increasing emphasis on education, while the environment and conservation are two other themes which run through the show.”
