Heidi Butter, who runs the craft and home gift stall The Pampered Pineapple with Deuxieme Chance, in Shrewsbury Market Hall, has already sold nearly 50 of her handmade poppies.

The former hospital sister came up with the idea for the poppies after learning to crochet last year. She sold nearly 150, raising £360 for the Poppy Appeal, and this year hopes to beat that target.

“I would always sell poppies for the Royal British Legion when I was a child,” said Heidi who lives in Pontesbury.

“I learned to crochet last year and thought making crocheted poppies would be a lovely thing to do and a great way to raise money for the appeal which I’ve always supported.

“Last year they sold like hot cakes and are going well again this year. They look very pretty and for some women are more practical to pin onto their clothing than the conventional poppies.”

Heidi has sold nearly 50 poppies so far this year. They are being sold at £2.50 each with the proceeds going to the women’s section of the Royal British Legion in Pontesbury.

Heidi is a marathon charity fundraiser. In total this year she has raised over £2,500 for 21 different charities by holding auctions on Facebook. She also raised a further £300 completing Cancer Research UK’s Race For Life this summer.
