First ever fundraising role for Telford charity

Home Start

Home-Start Telford and Wrekin helps parents raising children in difficult situations get the support they need to cope.

Families are offered a trained volunteer, usually a parent themselves, who visits them at home and provides informal, friendly and confidential support with everything from getting to appointments and nutritional advice to even just playing with their child or children or offering a willing ear to listen.

It costs £1,100 to support one family for a year and with more than ever needing its services, Home-Start Telford and Wrekin has created a brand new fundraising post.

Charity manager Caia Bryant-Griffiths said all of Home-Start’s work and activities had the best interests of the children at their heart.

“At Home-Start we believe every child needs a happy and secure childhood and that parents play the key role in giving their children that good start in life and helping them achieve their full potential,” she said.

“Many parents, desperate to do the right thing to give their children the best start in life, find they are fighting against the odds. That is where we come in.

“Our new fundraising officer will be responsible for raising funds to support Home-Start’s vital work, while also developing contacts to both promote and raise money for the scheme.”

Home-Start Telford & Wrekin supports parents with at least one child under the age of 5 who are dealing with issues such as isolation, illness, disability, mental health problems, domestic abuse, difficult relationships and multiple births.

“Home-Start wants to see a society in which all parents have the support they need to give their children the best start in life and our new fundraising post will help us keep working to achieving that,” added Mrs Bryant-Griffiths.

The fundraising officer role is 14 hours per week, initially on a six-month contract but likely to be extended if it proves a success.

The salary is £22,443 pro rata with expenses paid and applicants may sometimes be required to work evenings and/or weekends.

The closing date for applicants is Sunday 16 November 2014. For more information or for an application form, call 01952 243991 or email homestarttw@btconnect.com
