Adam Woods will be taking part in the Snowdon Charity Hike on 10 May and is fundraising for Climbing Out, a national charity which supports young people facing life changing injury and illness.

Adam 22, who first got involved with Climbing Out through the Teenage Cancer Trust said: “After my cancer life was monotonous. I still felt ill but worked hard every day and got back into running to try and get fit again.

“When I heard about Climbing Out and was offered a place on the programme I was really interested in having a go at the outdoor activities but what I got out of it was so much more, it changed my life.

“Climbing Out showed me that some of the toughest obstacles people can face are just that, obstacles to be overcome and left behind.

Kelda Wood, founder of Climbing Out said: “Climbing Out runs 5 day residential outdoor activity programmes that aim to help restore confidence and self-esteem to young people after life changing illness or injury and it’s fantastic to see the charity having such a huge impact on the lives of young people like Adam.

“I set up Climbing Out after battling for many years with a serious leg injury that changed my life. To be able to help people like Adam is the whole reason that I set up the charity, and if we can give young people who have been through serious injuries or illnesses the confidence to get out there and really keep living life then Climbing Out will achieve its aim.

The Snowdon Charity Hike is the latest in a series of gruelling challenges Adam has taken on since his Climbing Out programme to fundraise for Climbing Out and other cancer charities.

Adam said: “Before I went on the Climbing Out programme I had no social life and felt really lonely. One of the best things to come out of my experience is the people I have met and the friendships I have made through the charity. I’m also very happy in a relationship with Lucy, who I met on the programme!

Adam explained that this challenge is particularly important to him as it marks his first year clear of cancer: “After the challenge I am looking forward to a holiday in Florida with Lucy to relax and celebrate, before coming back and finishing my degree in Humanities and eventually I hope to join the police”.

Kelda added “It’s amazing that Adam, and some of the other young people that have taken part in Climbing Out programmes are supporting the Snowdon Charity Hike.
The more people we can get taking part means the more money we can raise and the more young people that will get the opportunity to benefit from these life changing programmes.

The Snowdon Charity Hike is being organised by West Midlands based outdoor company Breese Adventures. Anyone who would like to join Adam on the Snowdon Charity Hike can email tracey@breeseadventures.co.uk.
