The charity fundraiser, which is run by the Macmillan Cancer support, asks people across the UK to hold a coffee morning where donations on the day are made to the charity.

Last year 51,000 people signed up to the coffee morning, raising a record £10 million.

So far 859 people from Shropshire have signed up to the event this year, almost doubling last year’s total when £69,000 was raised within the county.

Shropshire caravan dealership, Salop Leisure, is arranging what it believes to be the longest event for this year’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning.

Its coffee morning will extend across the duration of the West Midlands Caravan and Motorhome show, from 28 September to 7 October at Salop Leisure’s Shrewsbury headquarters.

Tony Bywater, Salop Leisure’s chairman, said: “We all know people who have been affected by cancer and have received wonderful care and support from Macmillan nurses.

“The World’s Biggest Coffee Morning is a chance for everyone to show their appreciation to Macmillan.”

The World’s Biggest Coffee Morning was first held in 1991 when just 2,600 people registered to hold coffee mornings across the country. Since then it has raised over £60 million in total for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Staff at PCB Solicitors will once again be hosting a number of coffee mornings across the region as they invite local residents for a cup of tea to raise money for the charity.

The company has been hosting the coffee mornings for the past five years and will this year invite local residents to three of its offices for tea and home baked cakes.

Rachael Hughes, Managing Partner at PCB Solicitors said: “This is a cause we have supported for many years, and it is great so many of our branches are taking part this year. Macmillan Cancer Support does extraordinary work, so we are keen to show our support by hosting the coffee mornings, and raising as much money as we can.

“The event will take place over a number of mornings starting in Knighton on the 27th September, Church Stretton on 28th September, and Craven Arms on 5th October. We’d like to welcome local residents to come along for a drink and cake, and donate to such a worthwhile cause.”

Individual fundraisers are also taking part in the event, with Catherine Myatt hosting a coffee morning at The Plough Inn, Allscott from 9:30am, in memory of her mum and dad.

There will be cakes and a raffle during the event, and people who wish to donate are asked to visit Catherine’s JustGiving page at: http://www.justgiving.com/Catherine

Foster carers in Telford and Wrekin will also be hosting coffee mornings at Telford & Wrekin Council’s Civic Offices between 10am and 12noon.
